RTPI advocates for clearer guidance following mandatory BNG in England

Biodiversity net gain (BNG) measures are now mandatory for all developments in England, requiring developers to add 10% biodiversity to existing levels either on or off-site. The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) has been actively involved in raising awareness and providing support, with recent findings highlighting the need for further guidance and resources among planners, particularly in the public sector. While the government has issued final guidance and funding information, uncertainties remain, prompting the RTPI to call for positive case studies and feedback from planners to inform BNG practice in planning.
