Interested in improving confidence in blue-green infrastructure?
CIRIA is looking to provide greater confidence in different types of blue green-infrastructure.
The projects include RP1074 B£ST - valuing the benefits of blue green infrastructure, proposal 2970 Guidance on the delivery of Natural Flood Management (NFM), proposal 3084 Guidance on the delivery of blue roofs proposal 3141 Improving infrastructure performance through integrated green infrastructure. These are summarised below.
The main benefits of funding these projects are
- Early and privileged access to industry leading collaborative research.
- An opportunity to steer and guide the research.
- Opportunities to network with peers and all parts of the supply chain.
- Raising the profile of your organisation’s commitment to good practice.
RP1074: B£ST - valuing the benefits of blue green infrastructure
This project has already started to update the evidence and values around SuDS and Natural Flood Management to assist with the quantification of over 20 multiple benefits. In November 2018 we’ll start work on Phase 2 which includes additional Natural Capital Accounting reporting. We’re looking for funds for this Phase and Phase 3 which looks at making modifications to improve usability and spatial representation, both in terms of context specific information and presentation of benefit values.

Proposal 2970 – Guidance on the delivery of Natural Flood Management
Over recent years the role of NFM has hit the headlines, research and case studies have begun to be shared and showcase projects delivered. However, there are still some reservations around the design and related performance of NFM.
CIRIA together with support from the Environment Agency is developing and fundraising a proposal for guidance that provides greater confidence on the planning, design, construction and management of NFM measures. While the focus will be on flood risk management, the guidance will also support the delivery of multiple benefits.

Proposal 3084 - Guidance on the delivery of blue roofs
Blue roofs are becoming a common approach to deliver SuDS and manage local flood risk, particularly in dense urban environments. Despite their popularity there is a lack of high quality, independent guidance on their planning, design, construction, evaluation and maintenance.

Proposal 3141 Improving infrastructure performance and efficiency through integrated Green Infrastructure (phase 2)
CIRIA released C771 Delivering green infrastructure along linear assets - Scoping study (phase 1) in 2017. This presents good practice to support integration of green infrastructure (GI) into linear assets (rail, highway, water and energy networks).
The proposal for phase 2 includes the development of more detailed guidance to support the delivery of multifunctional networks of GI, underpinned by evidence on the quantified benefits of GI and asset performance.
